“THE BLUE SHEET”
Journey in the Word 2023
60th Edition: Jan 16-Apr 9
Epiphany – Lent - Easter
Welcome to the 60th edition of “The Blue Sheet Readings!” This edition will take us through the remainder of Epiphany, into the Lenten season, ending with Easter Sunday!
This edition is like previous editions in that on Sundays we follow the Revised Common Lectionary Year A. We will also follow the Revised Common Lectionary on particular days such as Presentation Day when Jesus was presented in the temple, Ash Wednesday when Lent begins, and the entire week of Holy Week. These are incredible readings, along with many believers around the world who will be reading them as well.
This edition will seem to move across both the Old Testament and New Testament. We will begin our journey with Ruth and it will be great for you to spend some time studying the context and content of this powerful book. You’ll have to dig somewhat to understand the concept of a “kinsman-redeemer.” (see Ruth as a great resource) We will then be digging through Paul’s powerful letter to the Roman believers – again pay attention to the context – the great city of Rome – and understand all that Paul was trying to explain regarding the gospel in this city “at the center of the world.” A great commentary resource in 2 volumes is Romans – follow the link to the Foundry Publishing Company.
From Romans we will journey through 2 short but powerful books – Jonah and Habakkuk. Again spend time in study - Habakkuk and Jonah
Then we will pick up Luke’s narrative, in chapter 11, where Jesus teaches His disciples about prayer and follow Luke up to the Holy Week passages. (Resource for volume 2 is Luke Vol 2)
As always, please share your discoveries with others, for as you know, the Scriptures are written to be read and lived within community. Enjoy spending time in the Word this season and we pray that the Word will spend time in you! Thanks for being a part of this journey – pk!

Some Suggestions
~ Find a quiet place
~ Try to find a consistent time
~ Pick up a journal or composition notebook as a companion to your readings
~ Write down one verse (or more than one) that stands out to you from each reading with the date of that reading
~ Share at least one verse with at least one person during the week
~ If you miss a day, don’t go back, start with the current date
~ Enjoy the journey
~ Whatever you do, don’t give up!
~ For a great challenge, read these passages from a different translation than the one you normally read from.
