“THE BLUE SHEET”

Journey in the Word 2024

65th Edition: Feb 19 – May 19

Lent – Holy Week – Easter - Pentecost

Welcome to the 65th edition of “The Blue Sheet Readings!”  This edition will take us through the beginning of the Lenten season, Holy Week, Easter and into Pentecost Sunday.

This edition is like previous editions in that on Sundays we follow the Revised Common Lectionary Year B. These are incredible readings, along with many believers around the world who will be reading them as well. I also added a couple of extra lectionary readings on special days – Holy Week, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Ascension of the Lord, and finally Pentecost Sunday.

Our readings will add a new exploration to our reading.  One of the practices of the Lenten season is a focus on self-denial, which is an excellent practice. I would like to encourage you to add a practice during the Lenten season as well and that is to memorize Scripture. For that purpose, we will travel through Philippians, Colossians, Ephesians and 1 John.   Our goal in this journey is for you to find a verse to memorize for each week.  Of course, during Holy Week and the week following Easter will focus on a different direction.

Towards the later part of April, we will journey our way through the book of Hebrews – incredible readings related to Jesus.  These will provide great benefit coming after Easter and prepare us for Pentecost Sunday.

I would encourage you to do your best to begin a journal regarding your readings as we move into the Lenten season.  Also, consider reading from a different translation than the one you normally read from. It will be different, but you will also benefit greatly from reading through a different lens, so to speak.

As always, please share your discoveries with others, for as you know, the Scriptures are written to be read and lived within community.  Enjoy spending time in the Word this season and we pray that the Word will spend time in you!  Thanks for being a part of this journey – pk!
